^^^ treeswarper, About as nuts as TP disappearing again, as you noted elsewhere.
Interesting talk here by NY guv Cuomo. He gives covid press conference updates frequently. I rather like his style (compared to some locals). This is the latest I could find on youtube, not quite a month ago, so before the most recent big spike. Cuomo discusses conclusions he's drawn re the inexplicable Federal response, and mentions the fact that some states have actually cut back on testing. Buzz by the preliminaries and start watching at 1:12

When asked "Why do you climb"? Simply respond "Why don't you"?

I hope you're not just trolling us. First, I don't see panic. Second, it's not a binary live/die risk assessment. Many more people end up in the hospital than die and have serious complications. Third, there is some percentage (I don't know the number) that live but have after effects that will last a lifetime -- morbidity, not just mortality.
And being careful is not that hard or onerous.

Some believe everything that is reported in the press and what the powers that be tell them.
On the other side of the spectrum are the conspiracy theorists, who question everything and believe nothing.
I try to keep an open mind and believe that most times the truth falls somewhere in the middle.

For any COVID skeptics out there.
1. Do a google search on: long covid
2. Would you play Russian roulette?

Yes. I read an article on how Australia is actually doing well. Number one on the reason why is they closed down their border earlier in the year. No incoming flights, period. The other reason given is that the citizens actually complied with the other restrictions. Also, having a national health care system is part of the solution. Even with insurance, we Americans have to think about the cost of a visit to the emergency room. I know I do, and I have pretty good insurance.
Finland has also been improving and for the same reasons.
It can be done, but not here. Too many non thinkers in our country, along with money being THE most important asset--more important than health. I find it frustrating.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

This is the classic monkey trap parable.
We can't let go for even a second to heal. Must stick with the dog eat dog ways no matter what (capitalism for the poor - socialism for the rich).
Greed is being used to destroy us...and we willfully go down that road. WWJD?
Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.

The map I posted has a hospital layer. If you zoom in and click a dot, one of the attribute values is "Bed utilization".
Of course, not all beds are created equal.
Some areas have or will run out of ICU beds.
Other areas might have vacant beds but have or will run out of staff.
X amount of staff can only serve Y amount of beds.

Our Covidians who require hospitalization are shipped to Wenatchee. The Wenatchee World has an update on how many are in hospital and have broken it down a bit further as to how many are in ICU and on ventilators (2).
According to our Okanogan County site, we are still not doing to badly here. I think we did go up to 5 new cases on Saturday, and then back down to 2 on Sunday. Chelan and Douglas counties are in worse shape.
Grocery Outlet has TP and they have put a limit on the amount that can be purchased. The Omak facebook page is in a tizzy about this and posts about how it is unfair to big families prevail. I'm trying to find humor in all the stupidity.

Hey folks, I need to make a post here with my moderator's hat on. I received input today via PM from someone (who's not posting here) re that we shouldn't allow any posting on Covid given our rules re "no political disussions". As they put it,
Quote: | ... there is no separation of covid from politics at this point and I suggest taking a look at the thread from a position of disagreement with the politics embedded in the value judgments being espoused to see how this might be. |
Joey's data-driven contributions are valuable, and it's obvious our community has the need to share general information and/or discuss current covid developments. While this thread has been civil, the individual who complained has a point, ie, dissenting views/critiques would start arguments, implying that only certain majority views here are tolerated.
The decision is ultimately Tom's of course, but this is the kind of thing the moderators struggle with. As Tom has said many times, NWH's goals is to build a sense of community. This is not to deter you from sharing your great data maps, Joey. Going forward it might be best to have you post them as a "static" thread with the understanding that it would be locked to prevent "kibbitzing" ill will. Stay tuned.
