If you really care, you won't be driving. To do so would take much more individual sacrifice than say, knocking out a dam. Salmon and Tires

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Quite the feather in the cap of UW-Tacoma & WSU-Puyallup. See also https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/12/common-tire-chemical-implicated-mysterious-deaths-risk-salmon & https://science.sciencemag.org/content/early/2020/12/02/science.abd6951 https://www.wrchem.com/product/westco-6ppd/ Also used in shoes. I’ve seen dead coho in my local stream. After long dry spell, then first rain. Bright, hens still full of eggs. I wonder if today people are talking about how to look for 6ppd-quinone in their frozen orca tissue samples.

The same toxic substance is in bike tires and in electric autonomous vehicles' tires as well. Hopefully, they can start engineering tires without this substance in it. One example of why electric autonomous vehicles may not be the pancea some think they will be, at least without other technological advancements.

The same firm’s description of other additives for similar advantages include where discoloration or staining is not a problem. Will tires that aren’t uniformly black sell ?

I always thought the parking lot runoff was bad. Move over for tires.

Parkig lot runoff is bad. Years ago UW fisheries took a 5 gal bucket of rainwater draining off 520 and added it to a tank of salmon fry. All promptly died.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost

It took some fairly spiffy chemistry by UW-Tacoma to figure out why. Looking for a previously unknown toxic chemical is not obvious. I think everyone thought that it was just the oils.
