Sad to read this. May her friends and family find comfort in their happy memories of her. I always enjoyed reading her posts, she was obviously a bright and thoughtful person.

Sorry to hear of her illness and passing. I very much appreciated her obvious connection to nature and love of the natural world which was so visible in her posts.

So sorry you lost such a dear friend Kim. That’s wonderful that you were able to be there for her in her struggle at the end.

Rest in peace Kirsten. While I never met you, it's clear that those who did had lives made better by your friendship, a lovely legacy. For Kim and others here who were fortunate enough to know her, I am sorry for your loss. You have great memories of your times with Kirsten and I'm sure those will remain with you. A sad time indeed.

Thanks Kim, I never met Kirsten but enjoyed her posts and she sounds like a righteous wingwoman for the hiking crowd in Heaven. Tom

All; If you ever have the opportunity to help someone through - do it. Caring for someone during their time is appreciated by them, and a salve to those of us left behind. Wisdom in enhanced, and conversations you never had before come up, and the frank discussions may cause you to change your outlook on one thing or another.

^^^ I spent quite some time earlier this year doing what Kim describes; everything she said is absolutely true, especially the part about conversations.

It's sad to see Kirsten passed away. I never hiked with Kirsten, but we shared the love of old maps and classical music. She invited me to one event that changed my life. It was great to see her in concert with an entertaining conductor and her excellent flute/piccolo playing, until her orchestra unfortunately disbanded. We lost touch the past few years as she wasn't on NWhikers as frequently. It's great to hear she had good friends from this group who helped so much. She got on NWhikers in 2006 and posted over 5000 times.

Then you'll be happy to know that within 3 years of the Bellevue Philharmonic, the Lake WA Symphony Orchestra was formed, and she played with them until she couldn't any more - her friends continued supporting her by going to her performances. Her playing was so clear and beautiful. Last Christmas I think she played every performance she was scheduled for - she did a lot of free lance stuff too, as well as with North Corner Chamber Orchestra, a conductorless orchestra that she loved, and who did frequent performances. Her last performance was perfection.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I appreciated her posts on wildflowers and one of her posts helped me to find the elusive Monument Plant here in Washington. RIP.
