About 9 months ago when the lockdowns happened, many people (including myself) predicted a baby boom nine month later. But I haven't seen many women walking around with basketballs under their blouses. https://www.yahoo.com/news/covid-baby-boom-no-2020-160506554.html "Nationwide, a Brookings Institute report projects around 300,000 fewer births next year. Google trends showed significant decreases in sex and pregnancy-related searches. And in a report published Wednesday, Modern Fertility found that about 30% of people with ovaries are changing their family plans, with most deciding to delay conception." Except for Ed and Lindsay, of course.

I would say that it's pretty simple really, limited socializing, limited sexual encounters. Nothings really changed for me, I wasn't getting any beforehand. lol.gif

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Right, and who wants to spend time in a hospital now if they don't have to. The boom will be in a year or so--lots of folks are just waiting. But the article's right, it might be a while before the birth rate is consistently back to pre-pandemic levels. Anyway, we've got relatives due real soon now, which should be interesting.

I know of someone who is about 8 months pregnant. Her husband also had covid about 8 months ago(among the first in king county). Not sure if she was tested, or the exact time line. Either way, that's a!pretty legit covid baby.

I'd imagine being pregnant and suffering through a covid-19 infection would not be fun.

You don't have them. Don't worry about it.

The reason so many people have been expecting a covid baby boom is that a lot of couples quarantined together, and among other things sex is a form of entertainment.

Oh, that's what you meant by "out of the loop", I get it now. Silly me!

Pretty sure teen and college age pregnancies are way down, no spring break, frat parties, etc. Social distancing might actually have more than one benefit for our youth. I miss some of my hobbies, but still have enough to keep me busy (barely) while trying to stay safe and healthy.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

I have a special needs grand-nephew whose therapy was interrupted, which is really awful. He's just a tot, and learning to deal with limited sight and speech at his young age is critical. He lost several months of therapy due to COVID restrictions.
