This morning I drove over to Presque Isle, on Lake Erie, in search of snowy owls. There was 1-2ft of snow on part of the route up to Gull Point, which is where I'd spotted them in the past, so I strapped on my snowshoes for the short 3mi (round-trip) hike. It was beautiful, with lots of virgin snow and cool ice sculptures, but no sign of snowy owls. I confess I didn't spend a whole lot of time at Gull Point because the windswept open terrain was cold and inhospitable. I consoled myself by stopping at a few of the viewpoints beside the road to photograph the antics of some seagulls.

That's a bummer about no owls, but still some great shots... I love 1 and 9! I just got myself a 100-400 lens and took it out to a bird sanctuary yesterday. Those in flight shots are not easy to get! Nice job. up.gif up.gif

No kidding! Landscape photography is so much easier, at least for me! smile.gif

#10! up.gif up.gif The focus/color contrast between subject and background. The minimalist symmetry of the flight profile aligned with the camera, set off by the slight cock of the head. It feels intimate, almost voyeuristic, with the bird's attention elsewhere.

Thanks IanB. I was just happy that my autofocus didn’t get fooled by the backdrop. A credit to my Canon 5D Mark III and the Canon EF400 f/5.6L lens combo I was using.
