Someone is laying metal spikes in the snow up Beckler River road. Seems like 2 people have ran over some . I was forwarded this. All the info I have.

On a few pages I visit. Not cool at all. Posted in stewardship, but found a few photos.

I just don't get why anybody would do it. Except for some kind of spite. The world has gone mad. In every direction ya look.

Well, now that is simply mean-spirited, malicious, vile, and, truthfully, kind of scary. The poor victims could be stranded, and in winter that is a serious thing if someone has to spend an unplanned night out, even in their car. And the cost to be towed and or rescued by a towing/repair service. What ever happened to goodwill, courtesy, manners?

It went the way of "agree to disagree" and general civility.

Just before you head uphill the lower fork goes into recently logged area and my understanding is that is private property. Where were these spikes found? Above this point. Or between the unofficial gun range and the fork in the road?

Geez people seem to be going crazy, WTF is it COVID, isolation or polxics? That is the most revolting thing I have seen today whoever did that, you sux rant.gif Why can’t we go back to arguing about unleashed dogs, cairns, flagging, and cutting switchbacks.

I was just looking through my old Footsore books (from the 1970s) to see if I could glean some now overlooked spots from those. In Footsore 2, when writing about Tomtit Vista, Mr. Manning writes about getting flats due to spikes (and being stranded) AND booby traps on the road. Beckler River is a much more traveled road though.

Some of the Footsore routes raised the ire of a lot of locals because of crossing private property or going into areas where people living off-the-grid didn't want company. I can't think either of those apply to Beckler River Road.

I got the impression that there were 4-wheelers being obnoxious/destructive in these areas and locals had had it. Beckler River is definitely more well traveled/public/etc.

I wonder if the local towing company is involved...

That is probably true although I don't condone that behavior in any case. I have always thought it was so cowardly when someone has a problem with another person that they take it out on their possessions. I know confrontations can be dangerous, but either face the person straight up, notify the authorities, or learn to live with it.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

I recall back in, I believe 95 or 96, someone with a tow truck was doing that on U S 2 east of Skykomish and then they'd just happen to come by with their tow truck, and charge unbelievable prices for a tow. They caught those jerks though.
