October 2018 Lost Lake / Mt. Bonaparte - Camp was 360 degree surrounded by howling wolves - our good buddy Dan brought his horses up to camp which apparently brought out the local neighborhood characters at about 1 am.

Not quite on topic, but I saw a very large coyote on Capitol Hill last week. At least, I think it was a coyote, but I’m not sure I can tell the difference. The animal that ran past my car was quite stout with long bushy fur.

Pointed ears? A coyote has a more pointed ear compared to a more round ear of the wolf.

Winter coyote are going to have extra bushy coat. It’s their coat that makes people overestimate their size. If you get the chance to see one getting out of a river you realize just how skinny they are. They do shake like a soaked dog.

Oh man, when you’re being harassed by crows.
I wonder if it beat the animal control people back to town.

Most seem to be nocturnal and don't run in a pack after their prey like wolves do.

Cat hunting in NE Seattle:
Woke up at 4am to the maudlin tones of canines singing to the full moon:
In the ONP so I assume coyotes.

We usually get a coyote a week on the trail cam in city limits of Issaquah, but backyard is directly adjacent to Squak Mountain SP.

Yes. Their winter bushy coat makes them appear larger.
And as Timberghost stated above, pointed ears vs rounded ears
Winter coyote
Winter Wolf

Nice catch. I know the wolves don't care for Coyotes in the same area and will run them off given the chance. The pack mentality makes them the apex predator.
