Good snow conditions to snowshoe in the Tatoosh Range at Mt. Rainier. Great views of open slopes and volcanoes. Did a loop from Paradise to Reflection Lake to Castle Saddle to Foss Peak to Mazama Ridge. Didn't see any tracks between The Castle and Foss Peak. Sunny and calm in the mountains. Views south to Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and Mount St. Helens . Used snowshoes the entire route. Used ice axe for the summit area of Foss Peak. Returned back at the Paradise lot just in time to be told by the ranger that it was time to drive down. 8.25 miles, 3400 feet gain, 7 hours.
Looks gorgeous. Did a shorter version a few years ago. Started at Reflection lake, up to the Castle/Pinnacle saddle, traverse over to Foss and then back down to the parking lot. That's a nice ridge traverse.
