I recently watched the new Ken Burns doc on Ernest Hemingway; still available to stream for free on PBS.
https://www.pbs.org/kenburns/hemingway/watch/
I never read Hemingway; mainly b/c the scenarios of his novels never interested me. I recognize that his style was ground-breaking for its era, but man, what a train-wreck of a life. Fascinating, nonetheless. One thing new I learned was the numerous head injuries he had which may or may not have contributed to his issues. Are there modern fiction authors so over-celebrated while they're alive?

I watched that also and learned alot about his life that I hadn't known. His writing style was new for the time and certainly became highly praised.
Not a style I like but that shouldn't matter to anyone else.
Norman Mailer is also a highly praised writer with a different style but somewhat similar persona.

In college I learned to do a passable imitation of Hemmingway, Mailer, and Kerouac got strait A in English. The bio was interesting thought he was just an author with baggage but wow enough disfunction for at least 3 telenovelas.

Some comic relief and history from cartooning's golden age. There's a great bio on Chuck Jones, but the link won't allow embedding it elsewhere. Google "Chuck Jones Extremes and In-betweens, a Life in Animation"

Anya Taylor-Joy was the guest host of SNL recently. I never watch the show live, but I've been watching various clips this morning. She did a great job. This has to be the funniest SNL skit I've seen in decades. So true, pretty much EVERYTHING that has ever happened has to be redacted, because eventually it will be offensive.

Not really a YouTube clip, but a really cool video in this Twitter post. This is professional surfer Billy Kemper — and his son Lion — surfing together.
From reading the comments, this actually happened inland in Central California at a surf ranch.
Beautiful wave. ~z

OlderthanIusedtobe - Thanks for your last two posts - an interesting pairing; it's so true that music and animals are amazing in their ability to reach people who have difficulties communicating with humans.

The cat making weird noises is way more endearing than the people making weird noises.

Saw a segment on a nature program about these recently. A sea creature that can literally disappear right in front of your eyes, how cool is that?
