Watching opening ceremonies on TV. Forgot how much hokum there was in it. The drones were kind of cool.

I’m watching the repeat telecast right now… One of my favorite moments from any Olympics opening ceremony: As the contingent from Ireland enters the stadium, they stop and bow to the welcoming Japanese staff, who immediately stop clapping to formerly return the bow in unison.

If anyone has any short clips of these events--opening ceremonies, please post a link or two. Thanks, ~z

I couldn't find a clip of Ireland's entrance, but here's the drones show (although not what the TV feed showed, which was from outside the stadium):

Hey. Thanks GaliWalker. I just now came across this one (Twitter clip) from a different perspective. Call me old-fashioned but I find it kind of creepy. And yes, I would love to see the Irish entrance. That sounds like a moment. wink.gif ~z

FYI NBC delays all their coverage by 12 hr or so. If you want live coverage it is available on CBC. Of course they have an emphasis on Canadian athletes but not quite as much as NBC on Americans.

This may be it, GaliWalker. I found this Twitter clip of the Irish entrance. Sound may be off, so turn it on. If I find a better angle, I'll put it up. ~z

^ That's it! An even better angle than the TV feed, which was from up high.

Former U. of Washington basketball standout Kelsey Plum is on the 3X3 team. Saw a delay of one of their games from this morning. It's really different than 5X5. Very fast paced, fun game to watch. USA won 2 games today, against France and Mongolia.

3X3 crushed Romania and then had a comeback win against Russia (or ROC officially). All the games are streaming live...at like 2 in the morning or something ridiculous. I can't figure out the tv schedule so I'm not sure if any of these are going to be shown tape delayed. I did see highlights of the Romania game, Plum went off, nearly outscored the opponents by herself.

This is pretty wild. This clip is of the Tunisian swimmer's family watching the race on television and seeing him win the men's 400 meter freestyle. Turn on the sound. (It does get loud though.) Talk about excitement. Ahmed Hafnaoui is 18 years old. ~z

The U.K.'s Tom Daley and Matty Lee win the Gold Medal for synchronized paired diving. They barely beat the Chinese team. Both performances are shown. Some great video here--especially the slow motion. ~z

3X3 basketball won 2 more today, only undefeated team left. They have one more game in pool play tomorrow, but have already earned a bye to the semi final round.

Was a good game between the US and France…but who picks the team? France had two guys over 7’ and we are trying to guard them with Durant, Draymond Green and some guy from the Heat? Plus, my biggest pet peeve regarding the NBA, too many 3 point shots…they keep missing but keep shooting them…move closer, lol. Some of these events are a bit weird to me, Ping Pong as an Olympic sport, really? Why not hacky sack as well? Skate boarding? Now that’s a real stretch. Smh

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
