Whoa. That's a pretty impressive obstacle per those photos. Were there folks on the other side? That would be difficult to cross. Vehicles parked further up the road? ~z

Yes apparently. The Park Service posting said they were working on (somehow) removing people and vehicles stranded back there.

From the FB comments it looks like they got the people out at least...not sure about vehicles.

Thanks, Foist and kiliki.
Man, that sounds rough--having to abandon one's vehicle. I wonder how often that has happened. I do remember a gal getting stranded on the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie once, but I think that resolved pretty quickly. This situation looks much worse with bigger water and steeper terrain. ~z

Probably not the vehicles. But they may build a ramshackle system of ramps to get them out once they determine the slope is stable. Cars stuck on the other side of Downey Creek were left until they could get a temp ramp built. I recall one of the car owners threatened a law suit against the USFS if they didn't get his car out. When the white chuck / Suiattle floods rendered the land between them inaccessible, at least one vehicle was left for years. And remember the rental car in the other side of a washout in the Hoh? The rental company charged the guy late fees for every day it was back there. Bastards.

Yikes! Yikes! again. And I've mainly been concerned about a tree falling across the road--one of those looonnng roads far from the highway. Thanks for adding the history. ~z
