Ha! I'm REALLY not. I just figured a big day would help me sleep on the red-eye!

I had been hiking for a long time before I made it into that area. No idea why I waited so long, lots of good stuff. Now I've made several in and out and loop hikes from various THs in that vicinity.

I decided recently after hiking to Camp Muir for the first time that some day it would be cool to climb Rainier, so today I tried to push myself to hike a bit more gain than I usually do. I tried to do a loop from P3 -> ridge to Defiance -> down and up to Bandera. I got the first two and then up to the false summit before real Bandera but was so out of gas that I just rested and turned around. Still a nice day.
All 3 peaks from below P3, pretty cool that you can see them all at once.

Early on the ridge to Defiance. I think I was off-route too far down the south side slopes just before this shot, things got pretty loose.

P3 and Defiance are a lot. And Bandera false summit counts as the top in my book! I've been over to the real summit a few times but it's not as fun except for the view of the big talus field. Why did this talus field (out of hundreds in the cascades) get an official map name of "Hi Valley" on USGS maps?

Rock Mountain via Snowy Creek: Road 67 is in rough shape, 2wd vehicles may have trouble beyond the Smithbrook TH. The spur road to the Snowy Cr Trailhead is in much better shape - no brush tunnels at all, looks freshly cut back (may have been last year). Snowy Creek Trail is badly overgrown in several areas, but still relatively easy to follow. Worst spots are in the first mile, but there are one or two problematic spots on the climb up to the basin. There's a large swath of avalanche debris and snow in the basin at the 2 mile mark, easy enough to cross but once the snow bridges over the creek melt out it may be a bit trickier. Possible Yellowjacket nest right along the trail about 1/4 mile above the basin - didn't get stung but a couple large bugs were swarming me (may have just been Deer Flies, didn't stick around to find out). Easily the worst Black Flies I've ever encountered in my life. Didn't get bit much due to copious applications of DEET, but it did not stop them from landing whatsoever. Fortunately the wind picked up closer to the summit, which kept them at bay on top, but the climb up was not fun.

Mt Pugh yesterday (7/24). Talk about some incredible summit views! The scramble sections were really fun, and I say that as someone who gets freaked out by scrambling pretty easily. Some pretty big blowdowns along the trail, but all but 1 was easy to navigate. Could see some serious smoke plumes coming up from what I think are the fires near Mazama, but we were lucky that the nearby air was nice & clear.

MSH Monitor Ridge, great views even though smoke on the horizon did seem to block out most of the Oregon volcanoes (except for Hood) and anything north of Rainier.

Image Lk & Plummer Mt via Phelps Creek TH. 7/29-31 Spent two nights at Cloudy Pass. The original idea was to climb Dark and North Star but a combo of heat, bugs, and low stoke led me to change plans after the approach. Day 2, I rambled over to Image lake for some swimming and climbed Plummer, excellent views all day. Brought an ice ax which I pulled out once going down spider gap in the early morning hours.

Avalanche destruction...was really surprised to see this much of a mess and with that much snow still remaining. Huckleberry Creek trail, not far from Forest Lake.

Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.

Last weekend overnight at Rampart Lakes. One word, or rather three: BUGS BUGS BUGS. Photos included. Note the ones on me arse - they got through. http://imgur.com/a/l9jx2FS Edit: fish report. - there were fish. I got a bite or two of fish but the bugs got more bites out of me so I didn't fish much.
