Yuch, that stinks. Sad to hear it.

Altasnob I have been told the same thing by the Copper Ridge Ranger. The Ranger at Hozomeen also told us that folks came down Ross Lake in Zodiacs carrying BC Bud. He also said a restaurant owner in BC was collecting many lbs of mushrooms in NCNP and smuggling them home. Remember we live in a wold where people cut down live high tension lines to steal the copper and cut catalytic converters off parked cars for the few grams of platinum group metals in them risking death.

I was watching this fire all day yesterday while climbing American Border Peak. It did look like two separate fires at certain points. Fire activity seemed to peak in mid-afternoon and really died down by early evening.

I’m in Glacier for a long weekend and we did get some rain overnight and this morning, with more forecast for tomorrow. Hopefully that can help at least slow down the fires.
Also happy to report that the air quality along 542 and up at Artist’s Point was totally fine yesterday

I received an email from NCNP as we have a permit for the Copper Ridge loop starting on the 15th. They said the fire is at 1000 acres and is growing slowly. Copper ridge trail is closed from the lookout to the Chilliwack and from there toBrush Creek. The trail is still open from Brush Creek to Hannibal and Copper ridge to the lookout. They are not cancelling permits at this time. The smoke is said to be better and is predicted to blow into Ross Lake area. We are still in a holding pattern and looking at alternatives.

If anyone is curious, the Bear Creek fire is a non-issue right now. I was in the area on the 10th and 11th and there was only a trace amount of smoke in the Chilliwack valley on the 10th, none the next day. They say it's pretty well under control.

We were up on Copper Ridge and Whatcom Pass last week and the trails are still closed and likely will be until winter. A fire crew is on site keeping an eye out. Fire is still smoldering in steep country. Saw no smoke from fire but a little from other fires.
