Had the week off to climb w/ my dad. We kept our options open as fires were complicating our initial plans. Finally settled on doing Golden Horn & Tower, then head over to Artist Point and hit Coleman Pinnacle. Headed out Monday morning w/ a stop at the Ranger Station to check on current fire restrictions and we were in the clear! The two of us headed up the PCT from Rainy Pass and reached Cutthroat Pass in a couple hours.
Worked or way to upper Snowy Lake and setup camp.
Our plan was to climb Golden Horn on Tuesday, but the weather had other ideas. We were greeted with a high of 38°, wind, and low visibility. Alas, we spent Tuesday around camp w/ warm drinks hoping Wednesday would be nicer. Did manage a quick 2 mile hike to Methow Pass to stay warm.
Woke up Wednesday to blue skies & climbing ambitions. Headed up the scree / boulder fields of Golden Horn around to a gully on the SW shoulder. From there a quick scramble up a gulley led to a short pitch. Set a #1 cam and worked our way to the top.
Decided to break down camp and move our gear down to Lower Snowy Lake for our Tower attempt. We reached the cave ledges in short time and worked our way to the base of the gully.
For whatever reason I didn't feel like climbing Tower at this point. Not really sure what was burning me out, but we headed back to our gear at the lower lake. Hiked out and continued our drive along 20 toward Mt Baker. Slept in the Glacier FS station before heading to Artist Point the next morning. Thursday was spent finding camp near the Pinnacle, and hiking to the portals in near whiteout conditions. Climbed the Pinnacle Friday the same conditions.
Another great time in the mountains!!!

When asked "Why do you climb"? Simply respond "Why don't you"?
