Richard Spring Fire near Colstrip MT 149,453 acres per infrared (IR) flight 8:18pm yesterday. Red/black line is perimeter determined by IR analyst. Map can display lots of #GIS layers. See 2 links upper left corner. Obviously not a laughing matter but I cannot help noticing that the fire looks like a pigeon. Open GISsurfer map: https://bit.ly/3jOpGhQ

GoFundMe to aid Northern Cheyenne tribal members impacted by the fires. Hay prices are through the roof with the drought, and lots of rangeland burned in this fire: https://www.gofundme.com/f/yellow-birds-fundraiser-for-hay?utm_campaign=p_lico+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer

this fire finally is under control thanks to so many who worked hard. information provided by inciweb. At 10:00 pm on August 21, Northern Rockies Team 3 turned command of Richard Spring fire back to the local unit. The Lame Deer fire was turned back on August 20. The Richard Spring Fire was identified on August 8, 2021 about 10 miles southwest of Colstrip, MT. Since then, it has burned along the Tongue River and has threatened multiple communities and infrastructure within the area. Prior to the cooler temperatures, fire behavior was extreme with wind driven runs and is burning in mainly brush, short grass, and timber. The Lame Deer fire was identified on August 10, 2021 and is located approximately 5 miles NW of Lame Deer, MT. The cause of both fires was coal seams. Rosebud County Fire Warden and Rosebud County Sheriff have downgraded the evacuation status for the community of Ashland, including the Ashland Divide, Rabbit Town, North Tongue River Road, and the St. Labre Indian Academy Campus, from Level 3 “Go Now” stage to a Level 1 “Be Ready” stage. The Northern Cheyenne Disaster & Emergency Services have downgraded the evacuation status for the community of Lame Deer, Muddy Cluster, and Rosebud Cut Across from Level 3 “Go Now” to Level 2 “Set” stage for all those who do not have medical conditions. Pre-evacuation notices remain in effect for Rosebud Creek from Greenleaf Creek to Cherry Creek and the Lame Deer Divide Road located on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation south of Lame Deer. Residents should continue to check Rosebud County Sheriff’s and DES Facebook pages, Northern Cheyenne Disaster & Emergency Services Facebook page, as well as the Richard Spring InciWeb page, as evacuation and road closure status are being evaluated frequently and could change rapidly.

Coal seams as ignition source. I knew once you mined coal that given the right circumstance it can be subject to spontaneous ignition. Is exposing coal to the atmosphere adequate for spontaneous ignition in situ?

Keep Calm and Carry On? Heck No. Stay Excited and Get Outside!

August 26, 2021 by Lynette Two Bulls, Organizer Many of you have been following along on our Yellow Bird Life ways Facebook page. The Fires are finally out thanks to heavy rain, thanks to our fire fighters working diligently, and to Creator. The firefighters are now doing clean up. We have surpassed our original fundraising goal thanks to all of you. Our faith in the generosity and compassion of people wanting to help in a time of need is strong. With your donation and the matching funds from 2 organizations we were able to begin purchasing hay, we have had 2 semi loads deliver with several more arriving every few days. We even had a family donate a load of hay. The hay is going out to those in need as soon as it arrives. The need is great, and the cost is high. As livestock owners know the cost of hay has skyrocketed this year; same for trucking because of the cost of fuel. We are continuing to hear the stories of loss of horses, livestock and animals, it is heartbreaking. We also continue to hear the stories of how everyone came together to help the community. We are looking towards spring when the meadows will be green again. Our hearts are filled with gratitude and humility. May you be blessed for your support. With Gratitude, Yellow Bird Life Ways Center Lynette Two Bulls, Executive Director Phillip Whiteman Jr. President Board of Directors Micah Highwalking, Chairwoman Dr. Henrietta Mann, Vice Chair Jennie Seminole Parker Secretary/Treasurer Allen Little Coyote, Director
