Wait, what? So I learned something new. Patsy Cline never recorded "Blue." She was about to, but tragically died before it happened. Bill Mack wrote and recorded it originally.
The song became famous in the 90s when it was the breakout hit for 13 year old LeAnn Rimes. That's what's really weird about Patsy never doing it, because I swore at the time that's all you heard was that it was a Patsy Cline song and LeAnn sounded a lot like her.
And here's a 14 year old Ukrainian doing a nice version of it recently (she's an incredible yodeler, that's where she really shines).

Just stumbled on this one the other day. The original was a big hit, but I always thought it was a terrible song, just everything about it I found annoying. And I actually liked Britney's earlier hits. The cover version actually makes it seem like a decent song. All about the delivery. My apologies for even posting the original...

"Ring Them Bells" is probably the first song I ever heard from Sarah Jarosz. I just found out it's a Dylan tune. And it's been covered by quite a few other artists. Kudos to Bob for writing it, but his voice was never great and it has not gotten better with age, kinda nails on a chalkboard when he recorded this. Sarah's version is a humongous improvement to me.
Gordon Lightfoot, Heart (w/ Layne Staley from Alice in Chains), Joe Cocker, Sufjan Stevens and Joan Osborne have also recorded it. I listed to all them, I like the Sarah Jarosz version by far the best of any of them. Maybe it's just familiarity because it's the one I'm used to...but I just think she did it better.

Yeah, probably any version of that song is better than the original. I though the Alex & Sierra version was pretty darn good.

Hmm, well I would disagree somewhat. No matter what you think of his voice, it's hard to replace the soul and grit of any Dylan original. Oh Mercy was a fantastic album. Had it in one of my 6 disk CD cassettes back in the 90s and must have listened to it from beginning to end 20+ times. Always enjoyed it. Too bad you can't find the originals on youtube. Shooting star is probably my favorite song from that album.

So if you're gonna take on an iconic song, you better make it your own. Here's a really different spin on something you've heard a million times. Gotta admit, I was never really a Nirvana fan. I'd never heard the cover before today, surprised to see it's from 2015, it plays during the opening credits of "Black Widow." That's probably gonna give the artist a big bump in visibility.

I can actually understand the lyrics in that version of Smells Like Teen Spirit. winksmile.gif dizzy.gif

Heard an interview with Robert Plant and he commented that this was his favorite cover of the song.

Okay, just heard this, HAVE to do this one. Here's a well known Metallica song, covered by the pre-eminent Mongolian folk metal band...with lyrics translated into Mongolian I'm presuming.
Hard to say which rocks harder. They both definitely do that in spades.

So you don't need to get Tawny Kitaen to be in your video if your lead singer is Daria Zaritskaya. Sorry Mr. Coverdale, but she looks better in pleather pants than you ever did.

Here's another complete re-imagining of a well known song, new version is from a movie about to hit theaters.
