One last larch trip for the year, by the route in Matt's excellent 2010 report. The only difference was I went straight up Seance's southeast slope instead of taking the south ridge. I stepped on a shifty boulder on the summit of Seance and my camera went flying, but miraculously survived again! It was a verrrry frosty night at Bernice. I hadn't been to the Sawtooths in a couple years, love it there
~16 miles, 5500' gain
hoodoo, raven ridge golden basin beneath seance seance se slope looking back ridge to beefhide bernice & star descending to bernice so much gold beefhide bernice bernice reflection bernice bernice bernice leaving bernice way trail frosty beefhide finney, surprise, baldy from beefhide s ridge looking back at the route to bernice dry lake basin dry lake basin star, bernice, oval, seance from beefhide summit bernice seance west ridge, prince creek valley, finney, surprise finney & surprise; maude, 7fj, bonanza etc behind beefhide's steep ne face, star/bernice/oval behind heading southeast on sawtooth ridge sawtooth ridge looking back along the ridge looking ahead to bigelow pretty basin south of beefhide hoodoo basin cheops & boiling lake bigelow golden road to hoodoo pass hoodoo pass view north side of sawtooth ridge winter is coming

So much larchy goodness!! I definitely need to head over that way for larch season one of these years. I'm glad your camera survived. Whew, close call!

So, so wonderful. There's almost a sense of peace that I get from imagining myself in these beautiful larch groves. Thanks for sharing.
