My daughter just moved back to the PNW after 8 years in the LA area. In fact, her apartment is close to ours, which we just moved into. My vagabond days have come to an end, after essentially living out of my van since mid May. She had a few days before starting work so we camped out of Cougar Rock, the last week it was open, and just hiked around enough to clear the LA smog out of her lungs. On the first day I thought we might bag Boundary peak in the Tatoosh but the bouldery gully climb past Snow Lake was slippery going and the end gully was snow covered and steeper. Solo I would have done it but peak bagging wasn't the point of this outing so we turned around and tagged Plummer instead, an easy go on snow covered trail. She had never been over there so the views did not disappoint. We enjoyed the luxury of showers and a thermostat set to 70 degrees and a hot meal that night. The next day we simply did a walk of the West Side Road to check out Gobblers Knob, a place we had visited in 2018 in pouring rain and zero views. Although the upper mountain was mostly hiding under cloud, the weather was fine and we had a few peeks through the whiteness. All in all a nice 15 mile day on easy tread in crisp air and few souls. We lucked out to have two good days of getting outside in the short span she had available before work.

Nice report and great pics, and welcome back! Nice to be back in Gods Country after 8 years in Hell, aye?

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

That includes 4 years at Mudd, where she also worked most of each summer (Claremont)

I'm sure your thrilled she didn't get attached to LA. That's a lot of outstanding photos for one hike -- but you know all the best spots by now.

Steve, how good for her to return, most especially coming back from SoCal. I may be mistaken, because you are the MRNP expert, but is your picture labeled Pyramid Peak actually the similar sounding Pinnacle, with Castle peaking over at far right?
