The road to where the PCT crosses is well taken care of now - and has become much easier to follow. It is a short hike up the PCT trail to the cabin. I was last there in summer of 2009 and it was in great shape. Late summer/fall is always a nice time to visit
Close, it's the 70 rd. Turn left just past the Greenwater Fire Station. It's paved all the way to the Sno-Park. Dirt road from there but probably some snow up higher. The meadows sits at about 5,000 feet elevation.
I head up there a few times a year and carry out trash, talk to through and section hikers and to just chill. If you want an epic view, head NB on the PCT from there and do Pyramid Peak. The lookout is long gone and the PCT no longer goes up it, but it's a unique look at Rainier
