Time to assess the damage caused by the Valley Fire. I joined a couple of hiking friends in the Japatul Valley area as we scoped out the trail heading south from the parking area. One person went as far as a high point & then rested while I & another person dropped down to where the trail hits Pine Creek. We spotted some frogs by the water, & made a mental note to come back later after it rained to check out the swimming holes.
The area was pretty much burnt to a crisp. On a positive note, some areas that previously req'd gnarly bushwhacking were now much easier to get to.
