Went hiking at two different salt lakes found at 4,000 m in the Atacama region of Chile. The roadway in had signs alerting us to Vicuña Crossing, Rhea Crossing, and Fox Crossing. Our driver told us that if you hit and kill a vicuña you have to serve prison time. The foxes eat the lizards that are fast on their feet. One photo shows a vicuña dung pile allowing the nearby plant growth.
I guess erosion is slowed way down in an area like that. But I notice there are still water carved feathers. I wonder if that's from a different climate in the past or rare heavy rain.
