I see that Backcountry.com has opened a new store at University Village in Seattle. I have shopped at their online store for quite a few years. One more option for outdoor gear buyers. 8200 sq ft of outdoor gear to see and try on before buying.

Anything different/better about this store versus REI?

At least back when I was still buying gear (5 years ago), less expensive than REI on many items. And a wider variety of different brands.

They don't sell Arc'teryx.
They used to sue other businesses for taking their name in vain.

Evidently this started after I had to give up backpacking. So ignore my post above!

They're also sending out 20% off coupons in the mail, which can only be used in person at the store. I received one today.

Backcountry.com is owned by TSG Consumer Partners, a massive private equity firm.
REI is owned by REI. Headquarters in Kent. Buy local.

According to a facebook post I saw, the store is mostly "focused on athleisure, mountain biking, hiking, camping, SUP, running and a tiny bit of climbing" so depending on what you're looking for it may not be the best option anyway
