Has anyone gone by Tyler Peak and or Mount Blady (Olympics) lately? I really want to know the snow conditions when I go out there next Saturday. This is going to be our last hike in Washington because were moving due to work, but I really don't want to leave but we have to.

Can't comment on the south facing slopes where the trail resides. But the north slopes of the Tyler / Baldy / Gray Wolf complex have quite a bit of snow.

Yes, I’m aware that the north side doesn’t melt out until mid-June, however the south side where the trail resides can be snow free by Easter in some years! However this year the snowpack is higher than average and it’s below average temps. Thank you for your input.

Two (?) weeks ago the Hex Mountain trail was clear except for patch snow in the woods at about 4,700 feet. That trail is almost entirely south facing. There's a lot of snow in the area overall. I know this isn't great info, it's the best I have.

Thank you for your info, I believe Hex Mountain Trail gets more snow than Tyler because Tyler Is in the rainshadow and it's south-facing, plus the treeline on Tyler is only 4,800 feet, which is pretty low in the rainshadow area, therefore snow in the trees wouldn't last very long.

Keep an eye on Sentinel imagery, they usually update every 5 days or so (looks like next pass might be on 5/20). Unfortunately all of the recent images are cloudy, but Friday looks nice! https://apps.sentinel-hub.com/eo-browser/ There's also this TR from April 30: https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report-2022-05-01-3148711913

I hope you can make it before you leave. As you said, some years it's melted out by April. Here's a shot from April 18, 2016.

I think I'm going on Saturday even though I don't know the snow conditions. The odds are snow conditions are fine.

Please let us know how it goes. I would be interested in knowing what conditions are like.

Of course! I love posting reports, however you will have to go to my WTA trip report for photos because I’ve been having issues posting photos on nwhikers.

I’m not sure how to use sentinel imagery, if you could put up an image of Tyler Peak from today I would appreciate it.

I just came back from Tyler Peak, it wasn't too bad, the snow conditions were passable and we didn't use Gaitors or spikes even though we had them, but I recommend you come here June 1 or later, so all the remaining snowfields will melt. We could tell the snow was receding rapidly, it will take less than a month to melt everything. You will get more details and photos when my WTA trip report comes out. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report-2022-05-21-7704021925. Trip report.
