Ok, time for a new thread that hopefully will keep us entertained this spring.
I'm going to start with an easy one because I got a halfway decent picture this weekend. I'm sure they will get more difficult as our flower photogs get involved.

The entire genus of Dodecatheon is referred to as shooting stars. The species D. hendersonii and D. poeticum look quite similar. I am used to the habitat of hendersonii being in damp soil adjacent to rocks or in boglike conditions. My bet is with Poet's Shooting Star, Dodecatheon poeticum because you found it on dryer land atop Saddle Mtn. The leaf of both species are spatulate and the tip of one leaf is barely visable.

It's pretty safe to say that if we take all of man kinds accumulated knowledge, we still don't know everything. So, I hope you understand why I don't believe you know everything. But then again, maybe you do.

THANK YOU for refering to it as a Pasque Flower (Old-Man-of-the Mountain) and not as a sub-alpine anemone. Many think they are the same but not. Notice the fern-like leaves. The plant will grow much taller and have a seedhead 18-24' tall and anemone's don't .

Marylou, I saw the dodecatheon peeking out from under the snow on Saddle Mountain on Wednesday. Quite a fun hike and just a taste of the wildflower explosion to come!
Every day a new adventure.

My guess is Broomrape. Looks a lot like it.
Here's one I'll add.
