The fee bandwagon will not end. Mt Rainier NP proposes to increase fee for climbing Mt Rainier from $15 to $30. I expect that the FS will expand the volcano fee collected for Mt Adams, Mt. St Helens and Mt. Shasta to the rest of the Cascade volcanoes. Rainier Proposed Fee Increase

I have read that thing. My thoughts. I think the Park Service does want to increase the fees but I don't think they will increase them by $15. I think they will increase them by $7 or $8 and then say "they compromised" with the public when in reality, that's what they wanted all along.

Art is an adventure.

Something like 8000 people a year attempt Rainier, half make it. Meanwhile 0.78 people a year attempt Galleon Peak, and 0.74 make it. No fees! Hmmm... wonder where I'd like to go?!

Add these new Rainier costs to the entry fee of $10 per car and a $20 reservation fee for camping and climbing above 10,000 ft, needed in the popular climbing months and a Rainier summit becomes an expensive proposition. I'm also taking in consideration the time, driving time and fuel and climbing incidentials. If you don't summit, the costs can double. Mt Baker looks a lot better

And Mt. Whitney looks real good. Plus you don't see the big city from the top.
