Michael - On second examination I saw your story on The Sassolungo and was amazed at the photos. What an incredible place. One of my coworkers and her husband climbed it this past summer, and stayed in a hut at the base of the mountain. I would love to go there, and if I couldn't climb I'd love to just stay in a hut and stare at the mountain for a few days. Anyway, beautiful photos and great story.
Thanks Salish! You should totally climb it. The easiest way is the way we came down, which was still darned exciting. But you do get to start from the Toni Demetz Hut, which you can reach by lift. Easier peaks such as Piz Boe are across the valley, offering equally nice views.
The Sass' really is the abode of witches, bats and demons. At least that's the feeling you get craning your neck up at it!
Thanks for lettin' me know your thoughts!
