I know this isn't a real hike but given the rain/wind it felt like a real hike. Couldn't get to the base of the falls (trails was wisely closed) but got close enough. I've never seen it like this. If you get a chance and you aren't out on a real hike, check out the falls. Most of the crowds only stay on the upper level where the shelter is .... not many people venture down on the trail to the river. Even more impressive than the volume of water was the SOUND of it. Wow, very impressive. The only time I've been there, the falls were two thin trickles in the summer.

...with the wind and rain in ones face on the trail, he or she will always feel alive, similar to John Muir climbing up a tree during a wind storm to feel natures raw fury. I liked your report, made me feel right there with you. McPil

Haven't seen it that high for quite a while. Next flood we have, I'm gonna have to take as many pictures of various waterfalls flooding as I can. On a tangent, according to the USGS gauges, the Skykomish River had about 1.4 times that amount of water (somewhere in the ballpark of 23,000 cubic feet per second) at Sunset Falls at it's peak yesterday...(for perspective, normal flow is somewhere between 2000 in the summer to 8000-10,000 in the spring)

Snoqualmie Falls again
I just got back my first set of prints (I took 3 cameras with me on my soggy expedition to the falls yesterday) and will post 2-3 of them. One of the most interesting aspects of the day was watching people watching the falls. The "shelter" provided no shelter at all as you can see. The wind and mist was everywhere and I was amazed at how many people were there taking photographs .... but when I went down to the falls other than what looked like a group of high school students (with adults) there weren't many other people at all. McPhil said it right -- it WAS exhilarating to be there and an unforgettable experience. Sometimes there's more to hiking than walking but you already know this .... Karen
I would love to have gotten closer but it would not have been safe...
