A new article on privatizing our national parks and the fee demo with commentary from Scott Silver of Wild wilderness. I thought it was an interesting article with a good background/overview on the subject.

I personally don't see how privatization will be good for the character of our national parks, help preserve the wilderenss in the national parks or provide better experiences (less hassle free) for visitors. I'm speaking in terms of the more natural/wilderness oriented parks (Rainier, Olympics, St. Helens, Yosimite, and Yellowstone. In the end, I think there needs to be a balance between the private and public ownership, with an emphasis on preservation and wildereness ethic, not a consumer ethic.

I'm not sure that these are the goals of privatization in the Parks!

If you've keeping an eye on Richard Pombo here are a couple links to what he's been up to.
offshore drillingpublic lands sell-off
These actions are a serious threat to wilderness areas and some national parks including NCascade. 'Mining claims' won't actually have to have any mining potential. People like Tom Chapman will have a field day
Thanks for the links. I will be keeping an eye on Pombo as he seems to be attacking some of the things I love the most-wilderness and wildlife!
