A friend told me this over lunch today. His father runs a helicopter operation out of Newhalem and Diablo Dam checking each month for snow levels for the USGS I believe. A person in Newhalem told him this. I don't know if it lore, or truth. Several months ago (exact month unknown) a bear came across some people at a campsite along the border in Canada by Ross Lake. (exact location unknown.) The bear was wearing a backpack. They wondered what a bear would be doing wearing a backpack in winter. It turns out the bear was hauling drugs. I don't know how, but the people got the authorities and the authorities somehow followed the bear to the drop off point and eventually caught the criminal. The criminal had trained the bear to go from location to location.

Art is an adventure.

True. I've only seen backpacking bears in the summer. winksmile.gif Can you imagine if the bear wandered into a den of hibernating bears. "Yo - Yo. Wake up! Mama bear! Papa bear! Wanna party?

Not to drift this thread, but I'm looking for an ultra light backpack but very roomy. Thoughts?

Maybe the bear cut a deal, so he wouldn't spend any time behind bars. moon.gif BW tongue.gif

If bears can be trained to ride bicycles, then carrying a backpack can't be much more difficult. Having a bear pack your stuff might be pretty nice.

Which amendment is it again that gives us the right to arm bears? huh.gif I don't know about any backpack-wearin' bears, but I did hear of a guy caught hauling drugs from Canada through Blaine in the false bottom of a trailer he was towing, which contained a couple bears. More details

A fuxk, why do I not give one?

I'm sure that is the only food endorsed by: The Backpacking Bear Association. It got my vote. BW
