Someone told me that gaining 1000s of feet in elevation causes gas. Works for me.

We always used to call it high altitude flatulence. completely unrelated to the related bikers syndrone of too many Powerbars.

What's with the folks who keep their food in their tents? Didn't they read the horrible post about the mice in the tent? The rationale seems to be if your food is plain or small in quantity, you'll be OK. The other line of reasoning, that they have never been raided by a bear, etc, could also be used to rid yourself of seatbelts and fire extinguishers. I have never been saved by either, so that means I don't need them, right? To be honest, if I camped with other people, I would probably be brave enough to break these kind of safety rules. When I am all alone in the wilderness, in the middle of the night, I prefer not to be scared half to death by wild animals. One night at Squaw Lake near Cathedral Rock, I kept seeing glowing eyes in the dark looking at me. I was petrified. I found out the next day that it was deer. I see I have wandered off the subject. Oh, well.

Willard, rats, is there some symbolism going on here? Reminds me of a movie I saw once...

Freeze dried Kung Pao Chicken is the best bear repellent there is . Thats why I sleep at night alone in my own little tent. I do care about my hiking freinds
