I began this trail expecting deep snow but hoping it would be packed down enough not to require snowshoes.
The first half mile of the trail was pretty much snow free as the trail begins winding around large old growth doug fir and cedar trees.
About the time we entered into the Alpine lakes wilderness (there was a sign on a tree the informed you that you were entering the wilderness area) the snow was deep and partially packed.
About a mile into the wilderness the snow began to get soft. I sunk a few times up to my knees but I wasn't going to let a little deep snow keep me from reaching the top.
I changed my mind however when I fell through to my waste. I pulled my self out and looked in the hole and could not see the bottom. I decided I would head back down and wait until later in the season before attempting that hike. On the way down I ran into two more people heading up neither one had snowshoes, I warned them of the snow covered ravines up ahead.
