Our annual Spit walk on a gorgeous day. Interesting bird activity: Killdeer, Dunlins, Harlequin Ducks, Black Oystercatchers. Lunch at the lighthouse. Only drawback: $ 29.40 ferry round trip fees from Seattle to Bainbridge Island ! Rhodis blossoming along highway 101.

If you don't mind driving, it has been my experience that it's just as quick to drive down to Tacoma and back up than it is to take the ferry, and it's a lot cheaper. This is assuming you avoid the peak times at the Narrows -- weekday rush hours and summer weekends in the early afternoon.
