Stomp and I have discussed heading up to Isabel sometime in the next few weeks. The two reports on WTA describe the route up the east side of the creek, but Stomp said he'd heard that the mine has been re-opened, and a guard has been posted, so I don't know if that's the way we'd wand to go. Does anyone have any info on the route on the west side of May Creek, particularly whether there is access from Reiter Road on the Gold Bar side of May Creek, or is fording the creek from the gravel pit side necessary? Any help would be great.
Ive been to the lake a few times. There is access 3/4 of the way up via the lake Isabel road. If you're 4x4 is capable you can drive most of the way, and then walk from there. Otherwise there is a trail that starts down by the original mine site. That trail them takes you to the lake. The trail from the road cuts in near it 3/4 of the way up there.

Is there access to the road from the Gold Bar side of May Creek, or did the road only go in from the gravel pit, where the bridge apparently washed out? Fording the creek wouldn't be that big of a deal, but should we decide to go up the west side of the creek, it'd be nice if there was an easier way in.
Unless you've got a GOOD 4x4 I wouldnt bother with the Reiter pit gravel road access. I dont think that you want to ford May creek in spring without locking differentials and a winch. Here is a pic of my samurai doing just that some years ago.

Ick. Your right, I don't think I'd want to ford that (even if Stomp's 198-? escort hatchback could drive across ).
So if not from the gravel pit, then how to we proceed? Where does this road come in from Gold Bar?
