Well, this wildflower thing had gotten me all pumped up. Hit the east side again yesterday for a little scoutin' around. Pretty much the same ol thing as my last trip. Looks as tho the Blue Bells are waning. I was wandering around, head low, lookin' for something different. I turn around every once in awhile just to check see from a different perspective. Much to my surprise I saw something I've never seen before. Doesn't mean it's rare, just that I don't have a lot of experience in the flower field and area. As I approached this new color for a plant I got excited. Wow!! I remember this from the books, which I didn't have with me at the time. Looks like a Shooting Star. Neato. Made my day. Later when turning around and lookin back I saw a small red dot looking back at me. What could this be? Still don't know but maybe you do? Thanks, NN

It's pretty safe to say that if we take all of man kinds accumulated knowledge, we still don't know everything. So, I hope you understand why I don't believe you know everything. But then again, maybe you do.

Nice pictures everyone. Newbie, yes that is a shooting star. I think it is Dodecatheon pulchellum. The other 'youngster' is going to be hard. Maybe someone else knows what it is. My guess is it is some type of buckwheat. I saw a lot of buds like this at Hayward Road and finally came across some that were open which we were able to identify as buckwheat. If it is buckwheat, it may end up being pale yellow in bloom and not red. That's a great link for the flower show at Glide. Maybe someday. - marta

My first gut feel was just emerging desert thyme buckwheat....but I can't verify it for certain.

I think thymeleaf buckwheat is a very good possibility.
