Does anyone know if the top of Rattlesnake Ridge in the Tri-Cities (or Mountain, if you prefer) is open for public access? I'm aware of the access point near Benton City, but was under the impression that the "summit" of the ridge was off limits (nuclear reservations, and all that). Thanks!

Are you talking about the 3629 point E of WA 241? If so that is not Hanford land at least on the S side and the summit proper but does belong to some farmers or ranchers et al.

I guess I can risk it if it's just a stray cow or rancher, rather than the combined might of the federal government. Thanks!

I would ask Alan Bauer if you get the chance.. he seems quite the expert on what land is open and what is not in this area..

I was up there, at the weather station, a few years ago on a North Cascades Institute field trip, and it was definitely off-limits to the public. We had a government ranger with us. Locked gates.
