I hiked to Bald Mountain via the Walt Bailey last fall. In case you are interested, here is my report with photos:
Bald Mountain
It was a great hike. I will be going back this summer. Nice views from the top of Bald.
Actually, just read your report yesterday when searching the net for info on this trail. Great pictures. Between the info and experiences that you and McPil have posted online, I need not buy any more books!
Anyone going to visit the Bald Mountain area should read JIMKs trip report.
I was up to the meadows on WB trail on May 7th, and the nasty blowdown was there then. It was a real hassle to get around, especially with a big daypack. It was the hardest blowdown that I ever actually got by. Here is a picture of the snow conditions in May.
OK here's another one that I looked at in that area!!!
BOARDMAN LAKE to ISLAND LAKE (abonandoned trail on the right /end of boardman)
THEN X-C (ANOTHER abondened trail??) to intersect the ridge trail
(BALD MTN. TRAIL.)
THEN TO E. BOARDMAN AND CUT THROAT LAKES!!!!! *as I remember cut-throat lk's are by east boardman lk.)
BEEN TO ISLAND LK. AND LOOKS DO-ABLE TO INTERSECT. THE BALD MT.
TRAIL. any thoughts on the old trails past island lk. and to bald Mtn.?
