I thought LO and west were the same thing?
Correct. The west summit, 4849, is the site of the old lookout and the destination of the Mt. Higgins trail. The middle summit, 4995, is also known as Skadulgwas, which is a native name for the peak. The east summit, 5175, is highest, and is named for homesteader Walter D. Higgins.
The west summit at 4880+ is slightly higher than the lookout. It's almost due north of the LO site and makes a dandy scramble.

Ah yes, we almost headed there instead! I wanted to call it "Myrtle", but nobody was buying it.

I have to admit I'm very impressed with Putz in Boots' accuracy. Despite sort of a short arm motion and with no footwork required she still had maybe 4 out of 6 or so hitting Quark with a couple right off the noggin as well. Good aim. Oh and nice TR too.

It has been noted that I'm not a good ducker. Well, see, I didn't duck cause I kept thinking the last ball tossed would be the last ball tossed. I wasn't thinking my freinds would be aimin' to kill me and all, in winter and all; I mean tossing heavy snowballs in the water in front of me, making it splash on me at the dawn of nightfall on a snowy slope in winter is downright dangerous. I coulda got hypodermiated and died & stuff out there. Here lies Quark, she got offed by a dork. So who inherits the spork? Besides, the coldness felt good - I was hot. Well, hotter than usuall. biggrin.gif

I am shocked and apalled at the accusation. I was morally outraged by companions actions. It made me sick to my stomach. That is not my maniacal laughter that you hear on the video, either. shakehead.gif Here's some more pics...

Here's what Higgins looks like with no snow, if anyone is interested:
Higginses
Higginses
Oddly enough, Beckey gives the LO site as being the west peak. Too many peaks! PiB - the middle peak, according to Beckey, is a class 2 scramble if approached via LO. East (Higgins proper) is given as a class 3 scramble, approached from elsewhere. It does look like fun, though!

YOu really think Skadulgwas looks easy to scramble! Ha! It looks dicey as anything. But a nice system gets you up the steep rock. Not done often from what I can tell. Some bushwacking but not terrible. Get there by dropping below the LO on the N side and find your way across the area. It looks dicey until you are right at the class 2 area. A dandy scramble.

It's difficult to believe that it's class 2. Eek.

Talked to a coupla guys up there last year; one old timer who practically owned the place, said it wasn't as bad as it looked. And it does look spooky. Yesterday when PiB mentioned bagging it if we had time, I said eek.gif and she said huh.gif and I said rolleyes.gif The featureless slab on LO is chock-full of penstemmon at the right time o' year...
