Dirty Harry's Balcony: 3/29/07

TNAB adventures continue...
There's been a running joke with the group about what would happen if everyone on the TNAB distribution list (over 100 now) showed up at once for hike. Well, for Dirty Harry's Balcony, we got a glimpse of what that scenario would be like...
We had 21 hikers and two dogs on the hike. Wowza! I needed a scorecard to keep track of everyone.
The LARGE turnout was probably due to a couple factors: First, people are wanting to break out of the winter blahs and hit the trails again. Second: The day was exceptionally warm and sunny for late March. I was reading temps near 70ºF on the Eastside!
The hike, which starts just outside the gate to the Fire Training Center off exit 38, began about 6:00 PM. Dacker (Rick) showed us a climber's shortcut that shaved a couple minutes off of road travel. The hiker horde methodically made it's way to Dirty Harry's Road, which is rocky as usual, and a bit damp with runoff from snowmelt.
The advance force arrived at the Balcony within an hour. We milled about, took in the views, ate food and drank beverages. The nicely waxing moon made an appearance. McClellan Butte was prominent in our field of vision.
A small group with excess energy to burn took off in a fruitless search for Dirty Harry's Museum (I still haven't seen it). By dusk, we gathered up our gear and headed back. We we all out by 8:30 PM or thereabouts. Good hike, nice weather, and a great bunch to hike with!
Here's a list of the hikers and who they dragged along:
(4)John (Moosefish): daughter Lilly, neighbor Jeremy, and Tokul (canine)
(4)Natalia (Kayakbear): friends Avey, Cameron and Jeff
(4)Chris (Magnum): Invited Heidi, who invited Keleigh and Steve
(2)Don (Malachai Constant): daughter Jessie
(2)Yet: Invited Rick (Dacker)
(2)Joanna (Whitedog): Banjo (canine)
(5) Loners: Alexei (Magellan), Bryan, Damon, Daniel and Yours Truly
Next Hike: Cedar Butte/Twin Falls. How many will turn out then? Stay tuned...
Cheers,
-Mark

I'm in unless it's a torrential downpour. Mist won't keep me away.

Watched you guys parade past me as I was changing out of my hiking gear. Good thing you didn't stroll by a few minutes later or you might have caught me with my pants down, so to speak.
I was the one behind the blue Jeep Liberty a few dozen yards form the TH. Said to myself, that has got to be the TNAB folks! Looked like a fun group. Glad you guys were able to make it out on such a nice day.

I had a great time at DHB and got to meet some other NWHikers and a few more TNABers.
I found a headlamp in the parking area after the hike. If the owner can send me a PM I can get it back to ya
