reminds me of this one time back in the 80's, at a sci-fi convention being held at the jantzen beach red lion hotel in portland, i dumped an entire box of mr. bubble into one of the hot tubs and turned the air jets on full-blast. the suds literally took over the patio area and overflowed the fence into the columbia river. at the time i thought it was pretty funny, but in retrospect it really was a stupid thing to do....
Things are alot better in the US, but I suspect places like Harbor Island, parts of the Duwamish might not be too good. And the superfund sites. And the Colorado River delta.
actually these days the duwamish and harbor island waterways are very clean, the epa has cracked down on every gross polluter there and they have either cleaned up their act or moved out.
salmon bay/fisherman's terminal is another matter... seems commercial fishermen just don't understand what's wrong with dumping 5 gallon buckets of used motor oil overboard..
I run a loop along the Duwamish river, from Boeing Plant II to the Boeing Development Center to South Park and 16th Ave bridge. Things have improved along the duwamish in the last 5 years. A Seattle city environmental department resurrected a salmon stream (Hamm Creek?)on the SR518 side of the Duwamish. I have seen salmon in it the last couple of years.
But, on the other hand, I have also seen lots of midnight dumping along the SR518 service road that I run along. Lots of trash, abandoned cars, used oil and used cooling fluid that run right into this resurrected creek.
