This was an unusual TNAB in the sense that we were missing so many veterans. It was, however, a very typical TNAB in the sense that we all considered it a very enjoyable success (one of my favorite summits). Myself, Larry, Damon, Daniel(Winnie), Andrew and the SchmidtAltitude quartet started from Eastgate. Joeseph & Colleen, Steve and Dave met us at exit 38. Larry's car was already there, so we expected him to greet us at the summit. After a short walk up the JWT, we found a few trails going South. I picked the one that looked the most memorable from last year. After walking 1/4 mile or so, it seemed that we were heading too far East and I recommended that we go back down to check for other trail heads. We did this, but after consulting the maps, realized that we were in fact on the right trail. It cost us about 20 minutes, so we got our second start from the trail head at 6:30. The trail lead us past the climber's cliffs and toward the most challenging part of this hike. Larry called to let us know that he found a new way up avoiding the scramble over loose rock and slide alder, but we took the traditional steep ascent, fanning out to avoid rockfall. After reaching the ridge that leads to the summit, we found a few traces of snow (there were 6-8 feet on last year's hike) and a newly cleaned trail up the ridge. The whippets took the opportunity to roll in the snow while waiting for us to catch up. Larry's silouete could be seen 800 feet up as he stood on a rock at the summit. We shouted to him and snapped a few pictures. Once at our destination, Dave brought out the tequila and lime. Steve passed out other libations (tiny bottles!) while Trisha surprised us all with a bag of home made brownies. Daniel had unusual dried fruit (what was that?). Plenty to share. Rainier was glowing. Chester Morse Lake could be seen below. We were on the summit for 30 minutes before turning back at 8:30pm. The scramble on the way down left its mark on Daniel after he got a handful of devil's club while attempting a vegetable belay. Otherwise, the trip was free of injury and mishap. We were back to the cars by 10:20. Too late for NBB&G even though a few were in the mood.

Great hike
Yep. Good hike after last week's mailbox massacre on my legs. Should've bought some gaiters or something. My legs are never going to heal at this rate. =) And now some pictures!

Got in not too long ago and will post some pics tomorrow. The brownies were only leftovers made from a desperate craving for them as we didn't get any of Yet's that are so awesome!!!! biggrin.gif If you guys liked 'em, Tisha made them, if you disliked them, Jeremy made them. Just kidding...Jeremy did make them tongue.gif

Great trip, everyone! I so wished I could have been there - instead, I got to be an undercover Swede on Norway Day in Ballard. paranoid.gif Thanks for getting the TR posted so fast, CHR15! up.gif

More pictures from another enjoyable TNAB excursion. Bushwacking up the hill was interesting, especially trying to avoid a few tumbling rocks. Sorry, Tisha! doh.gif

Greetings all, Here is the route that we took. The vegetable belays were a big help on the bushwhacks. Double click on the map to get the full sized view. I've marked where the bushwhack started and stopped. If any one wants the .tpo files for any of the hikes that I have gone on with the group, let me know. I'll try to post a few pics tonight or tomorrow if any that I took are worth a damn. The tequila thing worked out pretty well. Not sure what kind of hooch to bring next week. Suggestions?

Ditto on the great trip! Very fun company (really glad to have met everyone biggrin.gif) and good scrambling/brushy stuff. Chris, our fearless leader, we never doubted your route lol.gif. Dave - Hornitos - you rock!!!!! Very awesome treat. Yukon222 (Steve), no worries - the whippets kicked up more rocks than you did! Tisha's leg doesn't hurt at all. smile.gif Look forward to more fun-fillled TNAB's!

Had some time off on Friday so I decided to follow you guys. It was sunny when I left but it started to sprinkle on the way down. Followed your route up but went on the new trail to the ridge. On the way down I had some time so went down the "official" trail. I did this mostlt to take a few pictures of the new trail and McClellan's Butte. what addifference a day makes
