After a long layoff, TNAB braved the traffic on 522 and Hwy 2 to once again hike Lake Serene. I could be wrong, but it appears the last time we visited was August of 2002! Fortunately, the weather cooperated: temps were in the 70s, and the skies were partly cloudy. Perfect!
We gathered nine at the carpool spot in Woodinville (the poorly located P&R), and made it to the trailhead about an hour later (5:45 PM). We were met by eleven more eager TNAB'ers. What a great turnout! Overall, I counted 20 total. If I missed you - sorry!
Attendees: Annette, Denise (Action Betty), Yet, Chris M (Alpha-Omega), Nicole, Tim, Cathy, Damon, Andrew (ADrewzki), Jeremy & Tisha (Schmidt Altitude), Drew, Merrilee, Rachel (GG), The Malachai Constant Family (Don, Lynda and Jessie), Mark C, Jim, and Yours Truly
The group hit critical mass and exploded onto the trail at little after 6:00 PM. The trail is in great shape. The lower falls were in fine form, offering many a chance to use their camera. As the trail climbed toward the lake, peekaboo views of Mt Index and the Skykomish River Valley came into view. The late afternoon sun promised a glorious sunset.
The frontrunners reached Lake Serene around 7:30 PM and gathered at "Lunch Rock". Time for brownies! Sadly, there were only 18 units for 20 TNAB'ers, so a couple folks went empty-handed. Next time! Special thanks to Jeremy for bringing the "Cap'n" along.
Strangely, we had the lake to ourselves. It's still mostly covered with a thin layer of ice that's melting out in very interesting patterns. After about 30 minutes, people were getting chilly in the shadow of Index, and started the return trip to the trailhead. As we descended, a half-full moon rose, appearing directly above the lower water falls - sweet.
Most of us exited around 10:00 PM. Happy hikers left for home in droves shortly after. After making a couple drops, I was elated to make it in time to join the Schmidts, Andrew, Denise and Yet at the Rock in Lynnwood (almost midnight). They even had a cold one waiting for me - awesome!
Great hike - thanks for showing up, everyone!
Cheers,
-Mark

Normally there are 24 units. But my son decided just yesterday he likes my brownies, funny that.
We missed you, Chris!

Sorry my work obligations kept me from the festivities. And, I'll miss next week's adventure since I'll be out of town. Definitely will be back for Snoqualmie Mtn on 6/7. See you then!

Sorry to have missed this hike, my car is acting up so I've been using my bicycle lately, which gives me less flexibility with regard to leaving work at a reasonable time and still being able to do the TNAB hikes.
All this talk of brownie 'units' makes me laugh. Sounds like you're handing out rations or something.
Anyhow, for all the TNAB'ers who are wondering where my pics from last week were, here is a link to the pics from Mt. Washington on 5-17.

Yeah, we definitely missed you Daniel. Great pictures from last week! Hopefully you get your car issue worked out and we'll see you next week for Teneriffe. The Rock was great and a big to Jeremy for hauling my ass around. I'm kinda surprised that no one has posted pictures of the falls yet.

Hey, sorry I missed everyone. I had to work that night. That looked like a great hike. Unfortunately I am also going miss Teneriffe because of work too (I will probably do another peak (Mailbox revenge)earlier in the week) but I will probably make Snoqualmie if I can manage a ride (that ten bucks is still on the table) the week after!

Tish & Jeremy, thank you for staying later and missing your ferry so we can enjoy your company more. And for your photos; you always have such good ones! This is my favorite from this trip. To quote Tazz, I LOL'D!
And wow, I didn't even get a chance to "meet" everyone! But as usual, it was another fun TNAB.
Drew! It was nice to see you again, although I didn't really get a chance to hang out with you much on this trip. Thanks for bringing your friend Merrilee, what a sweetheart. I hope to see you both again soon.
