Snoqualmie Mountain
July 5, 2007
(Guest guest trip reporter Yukon222 in lieu of Yet, in lieu of Mark)
Mark scheduled this trip just perfectly, waiting for a sure fire beautiful day. It was definitely worth the wait! Temps were 70° at the Alpental parking lot and around 60° at the summit.
Another very nice TNAB turnout of 15: Carla (dicey), Chris (CHR15) and Jenny, Chris M, Dave (Treadwell) and Christine, Don (Malachi Constant), Jim, Joseph, Mark and Yet , Nikolai (twodogdad), Steve (yukon222), (Geo)Tom and Danni(elle)
The climb up to the waterfall crossing was the usual rock hopping, branch ducking, fly swatting, stinging sweat in the eyeball event that TNABer’s live for.fading-trillium orange-spike-flower
Throw in a little early season baking heat and what more could you want? How about a refreshing dip in the 45’ high waterfall? Not ice cold but, oh, did it feel good to soak the head.upper-waterfall waterfall-flow waterfall-pool waterfall-bobsled
After the trail grade lessened, the views (and bugs) increased. It seemed like every 5 minutes of climbing another mountain or two would pop up to say hi. Rainier, Red, Stuart and on and on. One last scramble up the final ridge and success! Almost everyone managed to make it to the summit by 8:00 or a little after. This is definitely a 360° viewpoint – Glacier and Baker to the North, Stuart to the East and of course Rainier majestically dominating the South.final-ridge rainier-and-valleys sundog
Once on the summit, we had the double bonus of celebrating Yet’s birthday!yet's-birthday-kiss
After many toasts, nibbling on fresh raspberries and soaking in the late sunshine (with just enough wind to keep the bugs away), we regretfully left the summit at 8:30pm.descent-thru-talus ridge-descent rainer-alpenglow last-flower
A few people went on ahead, trying to make it to the bottom before headlamps would be required. The trail is faint in a couple of spots, something Jim can attest to. Veering off before the waterfall crossing, Jim ended up doing a continuous veggie belay down the face of the mountain. While he managed to keep all of his limbs intact, his cell phone decided to stay behind in the thickets. If anyone else in the future chooses that descent route in the future, please keep an eye out for the phone!
After doing some stargazing in the parking lot, dicey reminded Yet that it was a TNAB tradition to celebrate birthdays with a spanking line. Yet couldn’t believe that was true, but everyone solemnly nodded their head and formed up into a long line. Yet, being such a trooper, dropped to all fours and tried to quickly scoot between everyone’s legs. However, even her speed wasn’t enough to prevent the front 6 or 8 people from rotating to the back of the line and extend her celebration even further! Finally, she was laughing so hard that the rest of us couldn’t continue either. Another successful conclusion to a TNAB hike.

Glissading is only for snow silly.
Looks like everyone had a good time and some great views. Wish I could have been there.

Hehe...the once in a lifetime chance for Yet spankings.
No brownies. But plenty of other birthday offerings: two bottles of celebratory champagne and other drinks, cookies, fresh raspberries, and other yummy snacks. Oh, and a tiara! That lights up.
