Had a hot but great day on the Heliotrope Ridge trail today with D2k, 8buck and about half of Whatcom County I believe. Road is in good condition if you keep your eyes open for the periodic big potholes and bring bug juice. bug.gif One of the creek crossings required a substantial up-creek exploration to find a safe passing route, but it wasn't too big of a deal, really. Used a friends camera again... still not getting the results I had hoped for... but I'm posting them anyway. uhh.gif The Water:

On the way back through Maple Falls, stopped to say Hi to JenJen... but had to leave her a note instead. ~E

Sorry I missed you! I ran out of productive things to do at work around 2, so I left before something that looked like work popped up again.

People are getting to Mt. Shuksan from the south right now. They were clearing the road to Table Mt. late last week so should be open soon. The site below is for the reports for Shuksan. https://cms.pwr.nps.gov/noca/planyourvisit/climbingcond_shuksan.htm

I called the Ranger Station on Wed. to inquire about Artist Point road... they confirmed that it is being cleared (we all knew that already) but wouldn't promise an opening date... other than saying it would be open by the end of the month. We considered heading up there after our hike... but we were just too dirty (= soaked with deet) and opted to head back to town for burgers & brew instead. ~E

Let me just add that I'd only been to Heliotrope once before... on 6-12-04. Just three days after I joined NWHikers... and it provided my source of info for my first post. hockeygrin.gif
