This was my first time to this popular destination - and the crowds were only mildly thwarted by the four hour Hwy 542 closure to allow for a bike race from Glacier to Artist Point.
Knowing in advance that the road would be closed during my normal travel times, I opted to head up to Artist Point the night before. Unfortunately we had a social engagement in Everett Saturday evening (the Circus!), so I didn't even depart Mt. Vernon until midnight. No big deal... I'm a night owl.
Arrived without incident to a dark Artist Point parking lot where I set up camp (ok, reclined my passenger seat and slid into my sleeping bag).
Awoke early for some nice photos and then back to sleep until 7:15am.

Just before the road closure, drove down to the Lake Ann trailhead. Had breakfast and departed about 8:50am, just behind a week long WTA workparty, featuring our very own Lookout Bob!
Enjoyed the quiet morning on the trail with only about 6 others (excluding the WTA group). Reached the lake, poked around, took photos, had lunch, helped a couple to conclude they weren't lost and then returned to the vehicle at 1:45pm.

Stopped by the store in Maple Falls to say hello to JenJen and ChubbyHubby... but they were out so I left a greeting scrawled on an empty cigarrette case.
No issues with snow of course, bugs were managable even without bug juice and the weather was fantastic!

Berry Status Report... knew I forgot something!
Berrys are readilly available, but not yet in sufficient locations to prevent you from reaching the lake.
