we started in the sunshine along the obstruction peak to deer park trail but somewhere along the way, the wind blew, the fog rolled in, it got cold, and so we turned around...i think we managed 4 miles.

so while we were back at the parking lot, we took pictures away from the lot

and then i noticed this trail going who knows where. i've seen 'researchers' down this area in the past but not the trail. we decided to check it out.

sweet little area. after about a mile we came to a tarn, maybe 5 inches deep,

all in all, a fun day to celebrate the first day of autumn. we also said prayers for the vaclavek family.

thanks for the name, mtnwkr...we christened it marmot pond on account of the many sightings of marmots yesterday. of course, 3 out of 4 wore marmot precips! that's girly logic!
