I'm thinkin' that Granite is a big avalanche prone thing.  Anybody know?  And, after a big dry sunny spell, does that make the avalanche dangers higher or lower? confused.gif

If you take the west ridge route you can stay way clear of  avalanche danger. Just some brush and windblown ice slabs to deal with. It does get real windy on the ridge, but that's the price to pay to stay clear of avalanches. Crampons are a must, but mainly for the way down. There are usually boot tracks that go to the ridge, but lemme know if you need a topo route.

scot'teryx,

I'd love to see your topo route.  Do you have a digital topo of it?  I'm interested in this same route.  It seems like it's pretty straightforward, but I figure one can never have too much solid information.

Also, is this route skiable?

Thanks for any info you can offer,

-Curt

I'm not familiar with the west ridge.  I'll assume that it does not follow the summer trail?  At what point would you want to leave the trail?

I will try and get the topo to you when i get home, but it basically leaves the trail before the main chute that has a trail in the spring. It basically goes straight up to timberline on the left side of the chute, then ascends the ridgeline to the summit. It is skiable down to timberline and maybe a little further, but that does depend on avalanche conditions as you would have to go a little east of the ridgeline to get some nice lines.

Topo attached
This is pretty primal as it is hard to remember the elevation where we started to go off trail and head for our new destination. Hope this helps though

Scot'teryx,

Thanks for the Topo.  It looks great.  We're hoping to go next weekend, although now I'm wishing I had gone this weekend because it's beautiful out there!!  I guess I'll settle for some night skiing.  We were up at Alpental last night and it was great!  Thanks again,

-Curt
