I don't think we DO have areas "untrammeled by humanoids." Most people are ignorant of American Indian land use practices and don't realize how many of these landscapes were shaped by natiive fire and agricultural practices. And since the end result, ie a meadow created by burning, looks "natural," we don't stop to think about whether the creation of these landscapes had more or less of an impact than, say, building an mining road or a fire lookout. None of which should matter for inclusion of wilderness, in my opinion, but I don't think we should kid ourselves that there haven't been human impacts on these lands for thousands of years.

If you compared Aurora Ave. today with the same place 200 years ago, its fair to say it was "untrammeled" then relative to now, even though it was impacted by Native Americans.

Was you ever bit by a dead bee?
