So, here I was partner less. One guy sick, one in Patagonia and two others not able to split from work, I had to do the work all by myself. From what I knew about Mt Cashmere, in the winter it was basically 2 day ascent, boy was I wrong!

After reading TR on Cascade Climbers by “telemarker” I knew that one was on my list. Left Seattle at 3:30am and started hiking Mountaineers creek road at 6:30am; road is snowed in from Icicle Creek Road. Since everything was frozen solid, the going was fast and I got to Lk. Caroline trailhead at 7:30am, thereafter, just 10 min into it, I crossed Pioneer Creek. That was my clue to get off the trail and climb up straight into Pioneer Creek Valley-Steep near the top here! Once in the valley, I crossed the creek again and worked my way up and right through open forest.

Once above the tree line~ 6,500+ I went left and traversed below Pt. 8.000 and Mt. Cashmere, this loooong over 1 mile traverse went past the summit block and into a shoulder on NW side of the peak. Then following goat trail I summited the NW summit and realized I needed to drop down to open slopes below rocks (this is all on the north side) Snow here was unconsolidated, therefore there was a lot of post holing mixed with hard

snow. Once on the North West ridge, it went easy, but on exposed ridge. Summited at 1:30pm and after 30min on top, went home.

In all, snow on the way up was a slab perfect for crampons, used snowshoes on the way down once in the trees. Back at the car 6pm.

Strong work, Marek! That's a lot of elevation gain for the winter. I dayhiked that one in the summer and I was pooped.

You're right. I started to think, that if the weather forecast on the west side is "so, so" I do not want to get wet again, and hightail home with no summit to show for. I did that last year with Colchuk and Dragontail, and I think, I'll do more venturing out east.

Few days ago? With the exception of short flat stretch in Pioneer Creek, everything else was a styrofoam good for crampons. On the way down, I lost 2000 feet in 5min sliding on my butt, then snowshoes all way to the car. BUT, now it is different; do not know how much its snowing there?
