Took a quick walk out to McMicken Island Saturday afternoon and enjoyed the wooded loop instead of the usual beach-walk.

Looks beautiful. So just to clarify, it is reachable by foot at low tide I presume? The WA State Park website says its only reachable by boat.

Thanks HikerMama. tongue.gif My access was from Harstene Island shore where my extended family has some beach front property. I haven't been to the state park the HJT refers to, but there are often people walking the beach so I suppose that if you don't have boat or kayak then you'll need to walk from the park (but check the tide table because if it's not low tide then it's not walkable without getting wet). ~E

Nice! McMicken is a "must stop" for me, my dad and my sister on our somewhat annual boat trip. The mucky beach at the southwestern corner right where the sand-spit meets the island is fun to walk around in. If I remember correctly, the DNR beach just across from McMicken is much more conducive for oyster gathering then it is on McMicken itself. The wooded forest walk is also a favorite of mine. When you get to the northern tip of the island and the viewpoint there, it gives you the impression that you're standing on the bow of a ship. If anybody gets the opportunity, Hope Island State Park to the south is another little slice of heaven in south Puget Sound. It's reachable by a short kayak or boat ride from Boston Harbor and there are plenty of places to camp. There's an old restored homestead in a field near the south shore and trails criss-cross the entire island.

Pain is just weakness leaving the body.
