I hiked up to Rampart Ridge with my brother and sister today. We talked with a member of a small group of FS firefighters that had put out a 1/4 acre fire near the parking area. They still had sprinklers running when we arrived. Lucky they were able to contain the fire as everything is so dry. Looks like they put in some long hours last night digging trenches though. There were great views from the ridge of Rachel and the Rampart Lakes and practically zero bugs. We only saw one group camping.
Was up there about 3 weeks ago, Scary about this fire stuff. Also met up with a very nice USFS dude who was lamenting about the overuse of the unofficial RR/ rampart trail.
Lament the erosion due to a path not built to withstand it. I remember the good ol' days when the trail to Mailbox Peak was mostly duff. Now it's a slippery quagmire.
